Artist's Statement

I’ve often admired Ernest Hemingway’s writing style. His sentence structure is short, simple and to the point. This is the sort of thing I look for in art making. Simplicity in dealing with complex subject matter of the human experience and beyond. 

We are a product of our environment. Mass media and technology has accelerated and increased the amount of tools at our disposal for art making. My work primarily employs oil painting, printmaking, digital, and analog technologies. Through my art, I explore the varied dimensions of the human experience in ways that highlight the beauty, fear, frustration, and complexity of life.

I sometimes ask myself, Is there any more information out there in the virtual space as there is when looking at a scenic view in the natural world? As an artist, I simplify the information out there to make sense of it. That fact that I choose take the time and make a representation of a place, idea, or feeling, is in itself the Artistic Experience.
